High End Youkilis Rookie Mailday

Last week I bought a sweet Youk rookie at a great price. The seller shipped it out quick, but it took forever to get here. After looking at the Track and Confirm, I noticed the package sat in my hometown for two days before they decided to deliver it to me. Anyways here is a scan of the card.
I got a great deral on this card paying only a fraction of the book value which was $60 last time I checked. Now all I need to complete the rainbow is the gold /2003 because there is no 1/1 in the set. I am really glad to have this card because it is gorgeous. I also picked up a new Youk jumbo patch last night, so I will post that when it gets here. Going to the Worcester Tornadoes tonight as long as it doesn't get rained out. I am hoping to meet Jose Canseco. I will post if I can get his autograph. -20youksox

Touched By Greatness

I knew this would happen eventually. Topps has officially started making hand print cards. While I think this is cool and a concept I had thought about over the past couple of years, I have to admit that it is a little odd. These cards are being inserted as box toppers in the new 2012 Topps Archives release. They are oversized and only available of one player, Cal Ripken Jr. Here is a video of Ripken "signing".
I think it is odd that they would have him do this with a batting glove on, but still cool. I am not a huge fan of the design of this particular card, but I do think it is a cool concept. Be on the lookout for these unique cards in your box of 2012 Topps Archives Baseball. -20youksox

A Penny For My Thoughts (High End Mailday)

As many of you have noticed, most of my maildays are lower end jersey and cards of that nature. I don't want to dissapoint you, so I will start off with a nice jersey card /20.
Nice card from a trade on Beckett, but I have a nice treat as well. I also got a nice high end mailday the same day. They say a penny saved is a penny earned, but I spent alot of pennies on this card. Incase you haven't guessed what it is after all of my obscure penny refrences, it is an Indian Head Penny card from 2012 Topps Gypsy Queen. I am a huge fan of this card because I used to collect coins in addition to cards.
It is numbered 10/10 so both cards in this mailday are eBay 1/1s. Looking forward to some more pickups, so be on the lookout for those. And also, happy late Mothers Day. -20youksox

Card Store Recap (Gypsy Queen Mojo)!

A couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to stop by my favorite card store, Pastime Cards and Collectibles in Yarmouth, MA. They don't have a website, but please check out their facebook page if you have a minute. I always love supporting local card stores like this one, and the owner is a really great guy. If you are ever on Cape Cod, I would highly recomend this store. When I happened to go in, Gypsy Queen had just been released, so I bought six packs of that. I did pretty well and I managed to pull two jersey cards. The first was of James Shields.
I have always been a fan of framed relics, so this is a nice hit. This card is for trade if anyone needs it. Next, which is the better of the two hits in my opinion is a Wade Boggs jersey card.
Again, a framed relic, but a Red Sox hall of famer. I am really excited to have pulled this card being a Red Sox fan, and it felt even more special because I pulled it on Fenway Parks 100th birthday. Overall, a pretty sweet visit to Pastime, but be on the lookout for a few more maildays later this week! -20youksox

All of My 1/1s

A few days ago, I revieved a package from a sale on Blowout Cards. A member of the forum pulled a 2011 Gypsy Queen Kevin Youkilis Mini 1/1 Cyan Printing plate from a box of Gypsy Queen on the box breaks forum. We ended up agreeing on $32 for the Youk plate. Here is a scan of the card.
This is acually not a base mini, but an exclusive box topper mini variation. I have the black version of this same plate. Also, this is my 25th Kevin Youkilis 1/1 if I have counted correctly (EDIT: no, I counted wrong LOL). Most of them are plates, but I do have a 1/1 autograph, a 1/1 patch, a 1/1 scketch card, and two superfractors. So, here are scans of the other 24 Kein Youkilis 1/1 cards in my PC.

Birthday Recap!!!

A couple of weeks ago, I celebrated my birthday and got some cool sports related items. I only got one card, but it was a nice one. It is a 2009 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection Quad Jersey Autograph of Kevin Youkilis numbered 9/20.
This card is really cool and goes nice with my triple patch auto of Youk from the same set. I was really excited about getting this card and it looks great in my PC. Next, I got a Red Sox hat with the 100 years of Fenway patch on the side. This is a great hat and it will be seeing a lot of use. Finally, the big thing which isn't a card, but is still really cool. A 16x20 signed by my two favorite Bruins, Adam McQuaid and Brad Marchand.
It is really uncommon for these two to sign together, but they did sign this together. It is from Your Sports Memorabelia which is a New England based company with an exclusive autograph deal with Brad Marchand. Unfortunately, I didn't get any packs, but still some really cool stuff. I am a little behind on posting because of my busy schedule, but I am going to try and post a card store recap, and a couple of mail days this week. -20youksox

Will Middlebrooks : One To Watch (& The Kevin Youkilis Conundrum!)

Rising up out of the Boston Red Sox farm system is arguably the hottest hitter in the entire minor leagues: 3B Will Middlebrooks. So many questions surround this 6'4'' 225 lb young star, all ranging from when he'll play on a regular basis to when he'll take over for Kevin Youkilis at the hot corner. Youkilis is currently on the 15-Day DL with a strained back, which is the perfect circumstance for Middlebrooks to show his ever-growing potential to become a big league all-star. Obviously, you don't want someone like Youkilis to be hurt, but it's definitely nice to see Middlebrooks have a shot. I feel that by the time David Ortiz hangs up the spikes or signs elsewhere, Youkilis will be towards the later half of his prime. This would be the perfect opportunity to try and move Youkilis into the DH slot, giving the up-and-coming Middlebrooks a starting spot, but still allowing Youkilis to bat and to play 3B on a handful of occasions (if needed). The other option, which is less popular (at least within the Boston fanbase), would be to move Youkilis to somewhere where he could be a DH, a first basemen, or even a third basemen. Looking at the possability, several likely candidates include Milwaukee, Oakland, and Cleveland. Milwaukee just lost their first baseman, Matt Gamel, due to a torn ligament in his knee( Oakland has two first basmen that could play on a daily basis, but both are not really top-notch starters. Daric Barton is off to a miserable start ( and Kila Ka'aihue has potential that he never really lived up to in Kansas City, but he's not exactly the most disciplined hitter at the plate, something Youkilis could instill in him through mentoring( Cleveland has had a rough situation at first as well, with Casey Kotchman slumping badly ( All three teams also have prospects that could be found to Boston's liking. Besides, the Red Sox already have a DH-in-waiting in Ryan Lavaranway, who is currently with their AAA affiliate Pawtucket. Either way this works out, this whole situation should be interesting to watch unfold.
