Latest Pickup

Just won this sweet card off ebay for about forty bucks. I glad I finally got one because every time I have seen one of these, I have been outbid by 50 cents. It is a 2010 Allen and Ginter framed mini cloth card numbered 4/10. I also own a copy of the 2009 version!

"Finest" Hour. (I Called It!)

I said it, I petitioned it, and god willingly, it happened. Likely the most deserving rookie worthy of a redemption is Ryan Kalish, and low and behold, he was announced as Finest Redemption #10 (Dominic Brown is #9). I still can't believe people thought that Topps would release a second Strasburg, and considering that with the drop in price when Kalish was announced, I cant wait to get my paws on one.

This card also takes the prestigious title of "Card of the Day". I ready and willing to fork over $10 for this, or shell out some other cards in a trade on Beckett.

What a game....

Hey, everyone. Last night's game was phenomenal. Daisuke Matsuzaka pitched 8 strong innings, while also striking out 8. Victor Martinez had 3 RBIs, while Adrian Beltre had 1 and Jed Lowrie contributed his lone RBI on a walk-off home run in the 11th. The ironic thing about Lowrie was the in the top half of the 11th, he misplayed a relatively simple foul pop-up, and although it caused no damage in the end, the fans started to "shun" him. But, redemption came quickly. Although I didn't manage to obtain any autos, I did pick up a card of significance and got a chance to talk to Dustin Pedroia. The card was a 2006 Upper Deck SFX Blue Jon Lester rookie card. And, although everything is overpriced there, I got it for $10. As for Pedroia, I was able to say hello, ask him how his foot was doing, and tell him that us Sox fans "love 'em" and we're rallying behind him. And, although he didn't sign, just being able to talk to my favorite player made my day. I also picked up 2 card grab bags with assorted cards from over the years. For 2 for $5, although mostly just commons, I got a few decent older rookies people have actually heard of and a couple cards for my Sox collection. It's more just the principle that these cards were bought at Fenway that make them, in a way, special. Foul balls around our (me and 20youk) seats, which were a couple rows back to the left of the Red Sox dugout at $95 a pop, had to be at just the right angle and just well enough hit to reach us, even though we were close to the field. The closest either of us came to getting one was about 3 or 4 rows to the left of us, where a fan who's blood-alcohol level had to be clearly higher than Ted William's 1939 .406 batting average spilled his umpteenth beer on another fan trying to catch a ball. Ole' Beer-Breath couldn't catch it, and dropped it countless times while trying to pick it up off the already beer-soaked concrete floor. He eventually picked it up, and acted like he had just won the lottery, raised his arms while staggering and yelling in a slurred vocal outburst that made Jabba the Hutt look like a Rhodes Scholar. He then preceded to jump up and down, drenching the poor bystanders in beer. But, other than that, it was a great game.

New to Blog

Hey guys! I was just added to the blogroll today and am very excited to make my first post. Just to give you a little background, I have been collecting since I was a kid and am very knowledgeable about baseball cards. My current collection contains well over 10,000 cards including about 300 relics and autographs. I mainly collect Red Sox cards however I mainly collect Kevin Youkilis. Cards that I post will be for trade on beckett.com under 20youksox unless they are PC. Also if you have any Kevin Youkilis cards for trade, hit me up on beckett. I am a horrible speller so I apologize in advance.

So now for my latest pickups from trades. The cards I am expecting in the mail are pretty good and I will post pictures when I get them. I am looking forward to recieving a Kevin Youkilis black refractor dual relic and a Dutin Pedroia dual relic both from 2010 Topps Tribute. I am also waiting for a Kevin Youkilis jumbo patch from 2009 ultimate collection and a patch from 2009 upper deck, both three colors. Can't wait to post again!

New eTopps Pickup

Hey, everyone. Well, I pounced on the Ryan Kalish eTopps RRO and got one for myself. Check out this really nice-looking card.

I'm psyched about this pick-up, so much so that I might even start a Kalish PC. I can't wait until he's in more Topps releases.

Too Funny to Ignore

Game Time: Red Sox, 8/21, Fenway Park.

Hey, everyone. Starting now, each game that I attend this year and in the near future will have a recap of any notable card pickups, the game itself, and more. I have pretty nice seats, but that's all I know about the location. Daisuke Matsusaka is slated to take the hill for the BoSox. And, just a side note, how about the red-hot rookie phenom, Ryan Kalish, delivering with his 1st career grand slam. This kids a gritty ballplayer who reminds me a lot of Trot Nixon. In fact, I'm officially petitioning that Topps make him a Red Hot Rookies Redemption. If anyone agrees with me, comment on this post.

In somewhat related news, Darnell McDonald broke a windshield in the Fenway parking lot behind "The Monstah", on Lansdowne St., after he turned on an inside Jerrod Weaver change-up. Here's the damage. http://soxanddawgs.com/redsox/video/darnell-mcdonald-breaks-a-car-window.html

Well, look on the bright side currently rear windowless Sox fan.....you get a free home run ball safely inside of your car..unless, of course, a swarm of crazy ball-hawks snatch it up before you even knew it was there...good luck with that!

In other news, eTopps has indeed released a RRO of Ryan Kalish...I'm jumping on that offer.

Thats it for now, guys. Thanks.

A Few Pack Prodigy Customs

Hey, everyone. I took a swing at making some customs yesterday, and I think I did pretty great. Take a look:

It's relatively tough top make customs without photoshop, and, considering I did everything in paint and with images and outlines from the Topps website, I'm very pleased with the results. The Yaz card is for my step-father, as he grew up enjoying and watching Yaz play. The Kalish/Doubront is a 2006 Topps '52 design, and they're both very hot rookies right now for the BoSox.

I'm having a slight problem with the scanner, so I can't post my cards from my vacation until next week. But, I'll make up for it with some more customs within this week.

Be sure to check out Beckett, as it has some new photos from The National up.

Tonight, I'll be at a Can-Am league game watching the Worcester Tornadoes play The Brockton Rox. Should be a good one, so I'll have a recap soon.

I'll also post another custom or two later. That's it for now. Thanks, guys.

I'm Back.....

Hey, everyone. Sorry, my vacation was a little bit longer than I thought. But, no worries, because I got a phenomenal card haul. Here's what I got from Chris's.

1) Daniel Bard 2009 Topps 206 RC
2) 2005 Bowman Chrome Michael Bowden FY card
3) 2007 UD Rookie of the Month ROY Edition Dustin Pedroia RC
4) 2009 Legendary Cuts Dustin Pedroia base
5) 2007 Tristar Elegance Clay Buchholz Jersey Card
6) 2009 Topps 206 Jon Lester base
7) 2009 Topps Unique David Ortiz Primetime Patches /99
8) 2004 Just Rookies Dustin Pedroia RC
9) 8 Packs of 2010 Allen & Ginter (No Hits)
10) 2005 Topps Gallery Kevin Youkilis RC

I'll have the scans of the singles and Ginter next week.

While I was gone, The National in Baltimore began, and apparently the 2010 Heritage Strasburg card created quite an uproar. I heard that collectors mobbed the Topps booth while security tried to maintain order. All of this over one card.....It's even been selling upwards of $900 on eBay! But, ultimately, I don't find it in the slightest bit surprising.

I'm glad to be back, and I'll have the scans for you all Wednesday. I hope to be able to post before then. Thanks, guys.
